July in the Garden


  • Deadhead Roses for repeat blooms and continue feeding till the end of the month.
  • Prune back Wisteria (now two months after flowering) by cutting side shoots back to five or six buds, or about 6 inches from main branch.
  • Feed your lawn with a recommended summer lawn food.
  • Water your lawn but be aware that it needs no more than an 2.5cm (1”) of water per week to maintain it.
  • Harvest raspberries and strawberries; remove unwanted strawberry runners; remove plants that have cropped for three summers.
  • Cut bouquets of flowers to bring indoors and keep deadheading flowering annuals such as Marigolds, Petunias, Snapdragons, and Pelargoniums.
  • Take time to sit back and enjoy your garden and appreciate all your hard work!
