Our
History
Maple
Leaf Garden Centre was founded by Albert and Hendrika
Duynstee in 1970. Albert moved from The Netherlands
to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1955. In 1970, Albert
purchased the West Vancouver location, which at the
time was a small nursery operating out of a home since
1927, from the Lloyd family. In 1971, the Lynn Valley
location was purchased. It was also a nursery, operated
by the Steenbergen family.
In
the mid 80’s, Albert’s sons entered into the family business as owners and
operators of the Maple Leaf Garden Centres. In 1990-91,
The Lynn Valley location was completely renovated with
a new nursery, greenhouse and landscape. In 1991, the
store had its official re-opening.
In
the winter of 2004-2005, the West Vancouver branch closed
for renovations, and re-opened with a new nursery, retaining
wall, watering system and landscape.
Now
onto its third generation of Duynstee’s, Albert’s
oldest grandson started his first day of work
at the Lynn Valley location in the summer of 2005. Maple
Leaf Garden Centre is proud to be rooted on the North
Shore for over 35 years.
